have recently started working on the restoration of a wonderful 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Karmann. This car has received some water damage due to hurricane Mathew that came to our area last year. Luckily the car was not submerged in water at all. The garage where the car is kept was flooded and the standing water and the humid temps that followed the storm lead to mildew and mold growing in the interior area, as you can see from photos. This is a great example of this car, complete with Pro Car Scat seats, EMPI shifter and aftermarket race inspired steering wheel as well as some updates to the sound system. As you can see from the photos the interior was removed as quick as possible to begin the process of getting anything out that could lead to the mildew returning.
After removal of the interior we treated any rust on the floor pans and applied a coat of paint to seal it. New carpets, padding and sound deadening material was installed. Convertible top had to be partially removed to install the new headliner. Rear speaker tray, front kick panels and forward amp board were all covered in sewn vinyl coverings. Next we installed new door panels and visors. Final touches included engine bay detail and a full exterior wash, polish and wax. This is now a fine example of a 78 VW Super Beetle Convertible that we really enjoyed restoring.
